Creating FTP Space for Your Personal Web Site

 

FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol, and is part of the TCP/IP protocol suite. It is the protocol, or set of rules, which enables files to be transferred between computers.

 

Windows 95/98

From Dial-up Networking, connect to your local Internet provider.

From the Start menu, select Programs, MS DOS prompt.

OR

From the Start menu, select Run, type command.

A FTP DOS window appears.

From the DOS prompt, type ftp members.naspa.net

Press Enter.

Type your user-id given to you from Naspa Internet.  Press Enter.

Type your password given to you from Naspa Internet.  Press Enter.

230 User Logged In

FTP> appears. 

At this point, type quit, press Enter.

Type exit, press Enter to exit and return to windows.

 

You have just created the space necessary to put your web files onto our servers.

 

You are ready to create and maintain your Web page by using your favorite Web software.

 

To reach your new Web page, the URL will be http://members.naspa.net/youruserid.

 

Macintosh

You will need an FTP Program, such as Fetch or Anarchie.  The FTP server or Host you will connect to is members.naspa.net. 

The User ID and Password you will use are your Naspa Internet userid and password.   If asked for a Directory (as Fetch does), leave it blank.  The first time you connect, the folder for your web page will be created.  You are now ready to create and maintain your Web page by using your favorite web software.
